Friar’s Brae, Linlithgow

LIBRARY ROOM
FLOOR TO CEILING CABINETRY WITH BOOK SHELVES AND LADDER

Brief:

To transform an internal linking space into a cosy, functional and welcoming library room.

Design:

Since 2006, the owners of a home in Linlithgow have been working tirelessly to create a beautiful space. They have transformed the ground floor of the property into an open-plan kitchen and living area and tasked Gopherwood with creating a cosy library in the heart of the house.

With floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, a striking feature wallpaper, and bold paint, the library is a comfortable sanctuary enclosed within Crittall doors. The timber finishes were carefully chosen, with Farrow and Ball “Railings” spray finish, metal accents and exposed timber revealing the Walnut grain. The ladder was designed and built by hand and the light was designed to highlight the book titles, creating a welcoming atmosphere that’s perfect for reading at any time of day. It’s truly an inspiring transformation.
